Founded in 2011, Arthromeda, Inc. is a medical device company focused on developing technologies to improve surgical outcomes for patients undergoing joint replacement procedures.

Arthromeda has created two distinct – yet complementary – platform technologies to reduce OR time, improve patient outcomes and reduce the cost burden associated with early implant failure.

PJ Anand

CO-FOUNDER & CHAIRMAN

PJ Anand is the cofounder of Arthromeda and serves as its Chairman with over 20 years of experience in life science industry. Mr. Anand is also the founder of Alcyone Lifesciences, Inc., a company focused on treatment of chronic neuropathological conditions and serves as its President and CEO. Prior to founding Arthromeda, Mr. Anand was a founding executive of Arsenal Medical and 480 Biomedical.

As Executive Vice President of Corporate Development, Mr. Anand was responsible for leading Arsenal’s & 480’s corporate strategy and business development activities including technology in-licensing, out-licensing and strategic alliances. In preparation for this role, Mr. Anand served as the Company’s Vice President of Business and Commercial Development and working closely with Arsenal’s technology visionaries, operational team and founding scientists played a critical role in creation of Arsenal’s & 480’s platform and product portfolio as well as executing on key strategic alliance transactions.

Prior to joining Arsenal in 2005, Mr. Anand, served as Vice President & General Manager of Spire Biomedical, Inc., a division of Spire Corporation (NASDAQ: SPIR).where he was responsible for establishing a medical products business unit. While at Spire, Mr. Anand was responsible for R&D, sales & marketing and business transactions. In addition, Mr. Anand was chiefly responsible for identifying and in- licensing the seminal technology for the company as well as executing major transactions with medical device companies that resulted in several million dollars of non-dilutive revenue for the company. Mr. Anand has also served as head of business development for Toxikon Corporation, a preclinical CRO based out of Massachusetts.

Mr. Anand has several patent pending inventions and scientific publications to his credit and serves on the board or as an advisor to select start-ups and non-profits.

Elsa Chi Abruzzo

CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER

Elsa Abruzzo has a 28+ year successful regulatory, quality, clinical, and operations track record. Her areas of expertise include cardiovascular, neurovascular, orthopedic, CRM, diagnostic imaging, mHealth, Health IT, and point of care diagnostics. An exceptional relationship builder, Elsa successfully headed numerous project teams at a variety of start-ups. Prior to Cygnus, Ms. Abruzzo worked at companies such as Baxter, Cordis JNJ, CryoLife, Percutaneous Valve Technologies (acquired by Edwards LifeSciences), AtriCure, and Polymer Technology Systems Cardiochek.

Some of the disruptive medical solutions Elsa helped bring to market include: transcatheter tissue heart valves, implantable biomaterials, surgical adhesives, embolic agents, stents, atrial fibrillation ablation devices, neuromodulation devices, and point of care analyzers.

Ms. Abruzzo has a B.S. in engineering from the University of Miami (Coral Gables, FL), is regulatory affairs certified (RAC), and a Fellow of the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society (FRAPS). As a thought leader in regulatory, she has been invited to present nationally and was recognized for leadership in Regulatory and Quality by MDDI Magazine 2007.

Mehran Aghazadeh, MD

CO-FOUNDER & CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

Mehran Aghazadeh is Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Arthromeda. Mehran received his degree from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. He is an experienced orthopedic surgeons' assistant at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, has operated in more than 6000 arthroplasty operations. Working closely with renowned orthopedic surgeons for the past 10 years, Mehran has developed an in depth technical knowledge of the arthroplasty operations, issues associated with hip and knee arthroplasty and has used his insight to innovate the orthopedic surgical solutions upon which Arthromeda is founded. As an end user himself, Mehran has clear vision in designing solutions that work simply and seamlessly to solve current obstacles and improve available systems. His designs are focused on empowering surgeons with intuitive instruments to improve the precision and reliability in joint fit and alignment and surgical outcomes.
